Systems Engineer III

Job Description: The Advanced Solutions Group of Leidos has a career opportunity for a talented Senior Systems Engineer in Abingdon, MD to support a critical modernization effort of the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) in order to satisfy the vision of Program Executive Office (PEO) Command Control Communications - Tactical (C3T) and Project Manager Mission Command. The Senior Systems Engineer will be expected to lead systems engineering efforts, while collaborating with software and test teams to deliver a fully-functional system. The AFATDS is a multi-service, automated command, coordination, communication, and computing system that provides automated fire support and coordination to all echelons, from firing unit through theater level, at Army, Marine Corps, Naval Firing Platforms, Navy Command and Amphibious Assault Ships, Air Force Operations Centers, and Joint Command and Control Centers. AFATDS enables the automatic application of the Force Commander's guidance in the Fires Warfighting Function to plan, execute, and deliver effects at all levels of command within the current and future force. AFATDS can automatically tailor the selection of fire support assets (field artillery, mortars, close air support, naval gunfire, attack helicopters, and offensive electronic warfare assets) based on the Commander's guidance, thereby enabling maximum effective use of all available fire support assets across the full spectrum of conflict. This effort is to meet the government's objective to modernize the underlying AFATDS architecture, redesign the AFATDS front-end to a fully web- and role-based user interface, integrate common services made available through the Army's Common Operating Environment (COE), and incorporate advanced embedded training technologies to aid in operator-initiated system instruction and refresher training . PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:o Decompose requirements to a software-design-ready state with achievable test verification, fully traceable from development through operational test following INCOSE standards; decomposition includes incorporating software design oriented thought processes, as well as ensuring verification oriented resultso Design systems architecture artifacts (e.g. DoDAF views represented in Cameo) and lead the transition to software architecture components and views with an emphasis on modular, open architecture implementationso Work in tool-based environment using JAMA, Confluence, Jira, Cameo and other Systems Engineering UML-based applications, as well as standard Microsoft Office suite o Provide Systems Engineering leadership, converting requirements to executable computer software itemso Provide Systems Engineering leadership in supporting test case, test procedure and test script development and executiono Support Earned Value process through planning, execution and impact assessments to cost and schedule by identifying risks and presenting mitigation optionso Provide Systems Engineering leadership generating material for contract deliverables and customer reviews o Other duties as required. External Referral Eligible apgjobs ASGERP18 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: o Bachelors Degree in a related technical field and minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience OR Master's degree with minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience. 4 years of additional related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.o Design leadership experience in product design, development, test and delivery of a Department of Defense systemo Proven technical depth in command and control systems for military missions with emphasis on fires control or other weapons related applications o Experience leading and executing Systems Engineering functions associated with establishing capability descriptions to functional allocation to establishing requirements at a system, down to the lowest component levelo Primary generator of DOD5000/JCIDS product artifacts including system specifications, software specifications, systems engineering plans, interface control and design documents and other material associated with the full product life cycleo Experience in software design principles especially related to Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs)/OSGI, documenting software architecture and design using UML, working with Java/J2EE technologies, Objected Oriented Analysis, Design and Programming, designing and building web services o Tailor and comply with INCOSE and CMMI inspired processeso Experience working with JAMA, Confluence, Jira, Cameo and other Systems Engineering UML-based applications, as well as standard Microsoft Office suiteo Able to multi-task, self-assign work, and function in a dynamic, fast-paced environmento Ability to obtain a DoD SECRET security clearanceo US Citizenship is required PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: o Demonstrated strong performance as a technical leader working in a multi-contractor, on-site and virtual environmento Ability to convey technical designs, ideas and results to non-technical audiences and provide briefings to high-level government personnel o Participation/familiarization with Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) and Army Interoperability Center (AIC) evaluation eventso Experience in User Interface development technologies, such as HTML5, NodeJS, AngularJS, etc.o Experience analyzing software architectures using CMU SEI approacheso Familiarity with VMF (and other Army communication standards)o Familiarity with MIL-STD-188-220 o Experience in C++ and JNIo Good understanding of concurrency (C++ threading models and patterns)o Understanding of RS-232/422, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, NLB network protocolso Experience working with Raytheon Taclink modems and tactical radios (R/T 1523, AN/PRC 152(A), AN/PRC 117G, AN/PRC 155 )o Familiarity with both SINCGARS and IP waveforms (SRW, ANW/2)o Experience with Weapons Control Systemso Experience with AFATDS, Army Common Operating Environment (COE) or other PM MC systemso Currently possess an active DoD SECRET security clearance Job #: TR-658397
